Wisteria-inspired marquee wedding in the English countryside, featuring stunning Larry Walshe florals

FLORALS BY LARRY WALSHE
This Florida-based couple chose Fanhams Hall in Hertfordshire for their magnificent three-day celebration. Early May is a glorious time of the year to get married in England and the grounds were bursting to life with wildflowers and wisteria. In fact, we were so inspired by the never-ending wisteria walkway leading from the house to the lake that it became the palette, and a key theme, of the whole wedding weekend.
On Friday evening, guests followed the wisteria walkway down to the welcome party, which was Cuban-themed in honour of the bride’s heritage. Draping, pendant lighting and florals evoked the faded grandeur of Old Havana, and rich red, pink and orange table flowers contrasted beautifully with the bright linens.
Despite it not being the venue’s usual ceremony location, I knew as soon as I saw it that Saturday’s ceremony had to take place on the lawn overlooking the sunken garden, which itself made a striking setting for the drinks reception. I loved the idea of guests passing through the ceremony backdrop and lining the steps on either side, ready to shower the newlyweds with confetti as they descended.
In partnership with JB Marquees, we designed a spectacular clearspan marquee for dinner and dancing, and I dreamt up a towering wisteria installation to frame the ‘reveal’ partition between the dining room and the club. Only Larry Walshe could bring it to life, and the result was better than we could ever have imagined.
Lettice served an exquisite three-course dinner, and afterwards, to guests’ delight, the partition slid back to reveal the club. RPJ Band took to the stage with a high-energy rock set that reminded the couple of the music festival where they met. The atmosphere was incredible!
On Sunday morning, the marquee was transformed and the florals were re-imagined for a relaxed farewell brunch. Sage green floral linens, cane chairs and lounge areas set a laid-back tone and guests helped themselves to pastries, a fresh juice bar and a Bloody Mary station before saying their goodbyes – a perfectly gentle end to an unforgettable weekend.
“We could not have been more thrilled with the beautiful wedding you arranged for Marilyn and Jake. From the stationery and flowers, to the food and music, every detail was meticulously and thoughtfully planned and the whole weekend was a complete success. Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience enjoyed by all!”
